#207 - Benefits of Agile and Other Methodologies for Enterprise Projects
Description:
Have you ever wondered if you are executing the right projects? Portfolio management takes multiple iterations to build rigor that is right for your business. Proper scoping, prioritization and control are critical to ensuring alignment with strategic initiatives. It marks the start of doing things right. Why should we care about different methodologies? One word: flexibility! Our knowledge of common methodologies serves as a toolbox, allowing PMOs to incorporate the most appropriate techniques and practices that best suit the organization's needs. Through iterations (the design-experiment-measure-evaluate-redesign cycle), you can create the environment to let agile thrive! Sometimes slow is smooth; and smooth is fast. Experience in working with tech teams has revealed that insufficient front-end planning creates challenges during and after deployment. Meanwhile, project managers coming from a traditional background need to be mindful to plan efficiently ("plan enough thoughtfully to get going fast"). Agile is a must. Although derived from software development, agile thinking can also be applied to enterprise projects to drive better results. This session will highlight the commonalities and differences to help project managers kickstart their agile implementation. With some agile myths in mind, we will conclude with our key learnings through this journey.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: (1) Explain why PMO leaders need to be involved in strategic discussions to ensure portfolio alignment; (2) Differentiate methodologies to employ practices that best suit the organizations' needs; (3) Appraise the commonalities and differences between enterprise and software projects when applying agile techniques.
