Suncor Energy, Canada's largest integrated oil and gas producer, is in the midst of a Digital Transformation. At the heart of this transformation is a cultural shift towards Agile methodologies, team effectiveness, and an "inspect and adapt" approach to risk governance in its digital project portfolio. As a result of rapid advances in technology and increasingly digitally-fluent business consumers, Suncor's project portfolio faces unprecedented complexities and demands in response to changing business conditions.In response, Suncor's departments are turning to Agile ways of working and project approaches to deliver value incrementally while also responding to changing requirements. However, project teams and line managers need help to cross the cultural chasm they are now facing as old and new ways of working collide. Suncor's Agile CoE has introduced the Agile coach to ease friction points and accelerate agile cultural adoption.This presentation will demonstrate how Suncor has institutionalized the unique role of the Agile Coach in a project climate and cover how coaches help to delineate complex work to showcase where Agile is most applicable. Lastly, it will showcase how Agile coaches help teams measure and improve their overall effectiveness.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: (1) Share how Suncor's Agile Centre of Excellence introduced, defined, and leveraged Agile Coaches in support of its Digital Transformation;(2) Demonstrate how the effective use of Agile Coaches became an enabling force behind determining when and how Suncor's use of Agile ways of working will be used;(3) Showcase how Agile Coaches quantify and improve overall team effectiveness.
